Kung-Fu Panda

Today we took our little boy to see Dreamworks "Kung-Fu Panda." It was hilarious! One of the best summer flicks we've seen since "Iron Man." I really liked it and can't wait to own it on DVD so I can watch it again and again. It makes me think though about all the movies that are in my DVD collection. We have many, many, many DVDs and you would think we wouldn't run out of things to watch, but we do. We do, because we never watch the ones we have!

We have cable so there are lots of channels to watch but we just don't seem to watch our movies unless there is absolutely nothing on TV yet we find ourselves watching even the most pointless shows cause we can't seem to agree on what movie we want to watch together. We keep buying more and more movies, yet we don't take the time to watch them. The only time we do watch them is when they are on TV. Go figure. We're not the only ones that do it this way, but it makes me wonder at times why we bother to buy movies.

viewing blogs...

So my little sister dared me to click the "next blog" button that shows at the top of the toolbar so I did. Low and behold I was taken to another blog. Yeah, I know, most of you have already figured that out but I didn't until today. It was cool to see different blogs with their layouts and sometimes even looking at their languages. It's so much fun. I took French in high school, but that in no way means I am capable of doing a complete translation, but it's fun to try.

Yesterday I took my son and his cousin Emily to the library. We ended up checking out 12 books. My son loves to have books read to him. Emily loves to have books with pretty princesses in them. Once we got home it was straight to reading. After one hour my voice was sore so it was time for lunch. I am so glad to have this time to spend reading books with my son. I grew-up with my mother reading to us a lot which I'm pretty sure is where I got my love of reading. I hope to pass that love of reading on to my children. My husband has dyslexia so for him reading is more a chore and he doesn't want to do it unless he has no choice. With him being back in school trying to get his electrical engineering degree, he doesn't have a choice.

Today my little sister stopped by for a quick visit and had her three boys with her. It is her 30th birthday today. I teased her that she would never be in her twenties ever again, unless she lived to be one-hundred twenty. She didn't like that idea very much. I think it would be kind of cool to see how much things change between life now and how life will be and what better way to see that then to live to be over one-hundred. My birthday isn't for another couple of months, which is fine by me. I share my birthday with my nephew David and I bet he can't wait to have his birthday as he'll turn five and start kindergarten.

Well my son is needing me to read more books to him so it's time for me to go. Happy reading!

my mind is leaving the building...

After reading that last blog, I noticed that my brain pattern was totally shot as I seemed to have missed adding some words to sentences. Some people would go back and edit their blogs, I say let it be. It matters to no one but me and shows how much my brain was misfiring as I was writing. It has been a very long time since I have had to ever write anything that was going to be read by people. This lack of a continued skill has serious consequences in the fact that I seem to have forgotten how to write complete and meaningful sentences. My English teachers would have my blog completely covered in red marks and corrections.

Thinking of English teachers though, makes me think back to my elementary school days at Salina Elementary in Salina, Utah. What a small school that was! Everyone knew everyone else or at least a member of this or that family. It didn't help that in a small town you had a much higher chance of having the same teachers as your siblings. Yes, it still happens in bigger cities, but the chance of that is significantly lower then it is in a small city. As I was growing up I was always called by my older sister's name constantly. That also didn't help when my teachers would be in the same ward as my family. With a large family and all of us kids looking like each other you had no doubt which family we belonged to. But little did I realize that this is not always the case. For example, my husbands family. None of his sisters look like the other! In fact when I first met Joel it was at a singles dance out at Saltair. He was there with this girl that looked like his girlfriend as they seemed like they were dating. I couldn't figure out why they wouldn't slow dance with each other. Yeah, came to find out months later she was his sister! Not his girlfriend, but his sister! No his mother and father didn't divorce and remarry other people resulting in step-siblings. They had the same parents, they just didn't look alike. After I started dating Joel and hanging out with his family I could notice the similarities in their actions, but other then that one would never guess they were family.

weekend....

So this weekend we went to the drive-inn movie and watched "Get Smart" which was also playing with "Don't mess with the Zohan." Joel loved Get Smart and I thought it was okay. As for Zohan, that was a vile movie. I wish I could get back the hours I lost watching that flick. It was horrible! I do not recommend this flick to anyone! It was terrible! I think Adam Sandler should just stop making movies. Get Smart had some issues, but it wasn't bad. Most of the funny parts I had already seen in the previews.

I must say that is one thing that annoys me. Seeing most of the movie in trailer form. You almost don't need to see the movies anymore since the trailers seem to show everything. I have learned I have to avoid watching any trailers for any movies that I want to watch due to the fact I want to be suprised in the movie, not watching a repeat of what I've already seen and then be disappointed since I watched all the good parts anyway!

On Friday night, Joel was gone to DJ a Dance for the Civil Air Patrol so after I put AJ I was on my own and decided this might be a good time to watch Disney's "Camp Rock." I was disappointed. I didn't like the main characters. Yes they different types of music in it, but it was all boring. Maybe it's just because I'm an adult, but I thought the main actress was boring. Her acting was not very beliveable. With HSM at least they had found actors that fit in their parts. Camp Rock was awful. I hope to never see it again.

As I sit here, the annoying Ice cream truck is crusing the neighborhood. They come once (sometimes twice) a day, every day. I have never seen any of the kids actually stop the truck to get ice cream. Plus with gas prices what they are I don't see how they could possibly make any money. Yes there are probably some kids that bring out their money to them, but I have never seen it happen.

I am now listening to the song "Magic" by Olivia Newton-John and am having a desire to watch Xanadu. Not the lame broadway show, but the actual movie from the early 80's. How they thought they could turn it into a broadway show is just, I don't know, pitiful perhaps? But then again it gets more people possibly interested in it and then they might want to watch the movie. Who knows.

and they made it!!

All four dancers from Utah have once again survived to dance again next week on SYTYCD. WAHOO!!!! The party continues. I am amazed though how well Twitch and Joshua are dancing. These guys are your poppers who shouldn't be able to do what they are doing with the choreography, but they are excellent with their performances!

It sounds like I do nothing but watch TV but I do other things too! I read books and clean house and take care of my little boy. I'm also learning how this whole blogging thing works.

Right now though, I am watching reruns of "Charmed" on TNT while my little boy is taking his nap. I loved the series although it did take me a little bit to get used to the idea of witches with powers taking on demons, warlocks and a variety of other mythical monsters. I have found it interesting that they have managed to go from one genre of monster like vampires and then move on to classical greek monsters. Yes i am a geek. I used to read everything I could about Greek and Roman mythology and monsters. I also would read about Bigfoot, UFOs, vampires, ghosts, and lots of other monster books. Of course I'm also a history buff and love to watch the History channel, National geographic and all the Discovery channels. I also love Sci-fi channel. I love to watch "Heroes" , "Supernatural", "Smallville", "Battlestar Galactica", "Doctor Who" the BBC "Robin Hood" series, "Reaper", and the list just goes on and on. Luckily my husband likes to watch all the shows I do, we just have to make sure we don't watch the scarier shows with our little boy.

Speaking of AJ, he was in my room just before 4 am saying that there was a bad guy in his room. Turns out he could hear his dad snoring and thought it was the bad guy. So I got to tuck him back in and reassure him that there were no bad guys in his room. This was the first time since moving him to his toddler bed that he has gotten out of it in the middle of the night. Joel slept right through it, but that may have been because AJ came to my side of the bed to tell me about the bad guy.

Joel is excited as the movie "Get Smart" is now in theaters and wants to go see it. I don't know if I want to see it. The only movie that has lived up to the hype for me has been "Iron Man." That movie was funny, exciting, smart and Robert Downey was totally believable as Tony Stark. I was very disappointed in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." At least in the first three they explained who the various peoples were that were in the film and what there purpose was for defending the artifact. This one gave no explanation who the people were that suddenly showed up in the dig sites in the movie. That was a big empty hole for me. I want to see "Hancock" but the trailers seem to be showing two different movies. One trailer portrays it as a comedy while another shows it to be nothing but an action, mystery flick.

watched tv last night...

And on SYTYCD I loved the routine by Katee and Josh! They are going to be hard to beat. I also liked Matt and Kourtney's dance, although not many of the judges liked it. I thought Matt had improved and was showing the emotion that he was accused of not having the last time he danced. The highlight dance though was Twitch and Kherrington's dance. Not only was it personal for the choreographers, but I thought they did it beautifully. Mia was a little critical about Kherrington's need to smile the whole time and many people booed her for it, but I could see what she was trying to say. Perma smile is not the best way to perform a dance. As for the couple that did the Argentine tango, it was pretty messy. Right before they started dancing I could sense the panic off the girl. I felt so bad for her.

I also watched Ghost Hunters on Sci-fi. It was their episode where they went to Fort Delaware. Just watching what Jason and Grant had caught on the thermal camera freaked me out pretty bad. I have decided that watching Ghost Hunters right before I go to bed is a bad idea. I have a very over active imagination and although I am an adult it always gets the better of me when it comes to night time monsters. I can only hope that my little boy doesn't end up with the same imagination I do or if he does I hope he can have better control of it.

I'm a huge Twilight fan. If you haven't read this series I highly recommend it! I go to the the oficial stephenie meyer website once a day to check out the postings about the books and the movie that comes out this December. I love the books and I'm sure I'll enjoy the movie, but I can already tell that the movie is going to vary from the book. Now some people will have an issue with that saying the movie should follow the book and not mess with a good thing. Of course if you've read the Harry Potter books or Lord of the Ring books you know that they didn't follow those to the tee when they made the movie, so why would they do that with Twilight? The best way I've found to handle these is to just remember that these are two different mediums and they will each do what is best for their particular area.

first meanderings....

So to start off I have to talk about "So You Think You Can Dance?" I love this show. To me it is more exciting to watch these talented dancers take to the stage then it is to suffer through the endless hype that is "American Idol." Yes these two shows have the same producers Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Cowell, but SYTYCD is by far the superior as you don't have to listen to lame re imagining of songs by wannabe singers. Yes singing is a talent, but to me it can be annoying to hear one of my favorite songs be rehashed, spit-out and altered to the point where I don't want to hear it anymore. Heck, I don't even like it when the artists sing their own songs live as to me it just isn't the same as the single on the radio. Where as with dancing, wow. What can I say. It's great and can really touch my soul. The performance that was done to the Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown song "No Air" really touched me. It almost made me cry. I can't wait to see tonight's episode. And all four Utah connections contestants are still in it. Wahoo!! Can't wait.
